Peter Bennett is an Australian musician, Community Arts facilitator, music educator, composer and researcher. He possesses a wealth of cultural capital with over 30 years experience in the Australian Arts and Music Industries.

Originally from Sydney, he is currently based in Melbourne, Victoria where he leads the Peter Bennett Duo and Trio. He also coordinates Community Arts Projects and works in music education.

With a degree in Composition and Performance from Western Sydney University, a Graduate Diploma of Education from the University of Melbourne, a Masters in Music Technology from the University of Newcastle and a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, Peter has lectured in practical and theoretical music courses at Universities and TAFE Colleges. He has also taught classroom music, music technology and instrumental music in Primary and Secondary schools throughout Queensland, NSW and Victoria.

In Australia he studied Jazz guitar with George Golla at the NSW State Conservatorium and improvisation with Mike Nock and Roger Frampton. He studied Music Therapy directly under Dr. Clive Robbins of the Nordoff / Robbins Music Therapy Association.

In the United States he studied Jazz Guitar under Curt Warren formerly Professor of Jazz Guitar at the University of Texas and in Los Angeles under Barry Zweig, formerly of the Buddy Rich Band. In New Zealand he studied Jazz Guitar under Dixon Nacey of the University of Auckland.

Peter specialises in Jazz music that swings. He has an advanced technical and artistic ability in many styles of music. He is a fine solo guitarist who also enjoys the interaction of playing in duo formats with the Double Bass or the Jazz Trio with Double Bass and Drum Kit.

Peter has restored five timber boats and is a proud member of the North Warneet Boat Club where he utilises his Marine Coxswains qualification servicing club moorings or making emergency boat retrievals in Westernport. He also enjoys composing classical guitar suites, digital recording technologies and 35mm format digital photography.
